[He leans against the barrier, and points at the various parts of the gun.] This is the frame. Trigger's most often embedded, like this, and the magazine well is always inside the butt.

The slide. [He points to the metal on top.] It keeps the chamber sealed, and can help compensate for recoil. It houses the firing pin. A gun with a polymer frame will have at least seventy percent of it's weight in the slide.

The barrel assumble houses barrel and chamber. You have to be careful of the rifling - that's inside the barrel; it's one of the most important things affecting a gun's accuracy.

Then there's just the guide rod and recoil spring. Usually they're together. The rod guides the slide when it recoils, and the spring pulls the slide back into place once you've fired.

Now, de-cock the striker, pull the take down tabs. [He points with every direction, gesturing the appropriate movement.] Pull the slide to the rear; then you'll be able to move it off. This is called field stripping.
