[His motor skills are excellent when drunk. Excellent. When he does walk out of the pub, it's as if he stopped after two drinks. He can walk a mostly straight line, he can judge distance, and though a moving target would give him trouble, he still knows all the parts of a gun, through assembly and disassembly.

So while he waits for Cassel, that's what he does: muscle memory takes over, and he cleans his gun, takes it apart, puts it back together again. When he takes aim, his shoulder aches, and he realizes, not for the first time, that there's probably shrapnel in there shifting around. The first shot he fires is loud, and he regrets not putting on earmuffs. He only just manages to hit the target's shoulder.

When Cassel finally shows, he's switching out the target for a new one.]

Good. Come here. [Target fixed, he hits the button to send it back 50 feet, and hits the safety on his gun before offering it butt first to Cassel.]
